I started my classroom observations at Dover Elementary in a 5th grade reading classroom. The first thing I noticed was how clean and orderly it was for a classroom with over 20 children in it!! Also, I picked up on the visual cues of the Bumble bee themed murals on all the walls. This included classroom rules, vocabulary from wall to wall, and tips on how to read and re-read your assignments for different interpretations!! I also noticed how effortlessly the teacher quietly disciplined the children that were being disruptive with just a simple press of her index finger to her lips and then continued on with the instructions or lesson. This to me was a bit different than what I experienced in a marine biology class later in my observations, more on that in the next blog!!
